Rustic Blaze

"All about the light. The rich golden light at sunset on a beach in Sri Lanka. Palm trees are everywhere and they have many identities. They can sway gracefully in the breeze, or they can create abstract shapes and patterns in the negative space between the fronds. This is what I have concentrated on here. The palm tree has many symbolic meanings and in this image, I have tried to highlight its association with immortality and regeneration with the addition of gold leaf." - Valda Bailey

The image was first gilded with copper, which was then rubbed back to reveal most of the glass with the gold applied on that. There is twice the amount of precious metal used.
